Changes in ITR Compliance API

    Resolved

    We are writing to inform you about an important update to our ITR Compliance Check API. Our goal is to enhance the accuracy and clarity of the compliance information provided by our API.


    What’s Changing?

    Previously, our API returned a compliant along with pan_aadhaar_linked flag to indicate the compliance status with respect to income tax regulations. This flag primarily indicated whether the individual or entity was specified under Section 206AB 

    In the updated version of the API in June 2024, we had introduced two additional fields:

    1. specified_person_under_206: Indicates if the person is specified under Section 206.

    2. pan_status: Indicates the status of the PAN (e.g., operative, inoperative).

    These fields were introduced to reflect the updated rules, which consider both the specified status under Section 206 and the PAN status (operative or inoperative) for determining compliance, especially for lower TDS deductions.

    Now, we are changing the logic to compliant flag

    Updated Logic for the compliant Flag

    To avoid any confusion, we have updated the logic for the compliant flag. Going forward, for the compliant flag to be true:

    - The individual or entity must not be specified under Section 206.

    - The PAN must be in an operative status (linked with Aadhaar).

    If either of these conditions is not met, the compliant flag will be set to false.

    Why This Change?

    The term compliant was causing some confusion among our clients, as it was interpreted as indicating eligibility for lower TDS deduction. With this update, we aim to provide a clearer representation of compliance by incorporating both the specified status and the operative status of the PAN.


    Recommendation

    We strongly recommend that you rely on the fields specified_person_under_206 and pan_status individually in your integration to avoid any confusion in future updates. The compliant field is maintained for backward compatibility, but for precise compliance checks, the individual fields provide more detailed and accurate information.
